Spot on!! For a known brand like Jamo / Paradigm etc you need to spend around $3-400 a pair for 8"... There are some good speakers (not great for home theatre) in ceilings that startg around the $100 mark... Re: Home Theatre Speakers 5Sep 09, 2008 9:50 am Thanks for the replies ... and I do appreciate the honesty.
The speakers I'm talking about are advertised online at $325 per pair, but I can get them for $80/ pair thru' a contact. The specs for the speakers are here ... http://www.hillshomesolutions.com.au/arbitrage/pages/85/music_brochure.pdf Can't afford to fork out $200+ per pair of speakers (I need at least 8 pairs for DA), so this is a really good deal for me ... may be I'll buy a single pair and test before buying the lot. And my other question again ... are flush mount satellites worse than free standing ones when it comes to sound quality? Re: Home Theatre Speakers 6Sep 09, 2008 11:58 am To get a flush mounted in-ceiling or in-wall speaker to sound as good as an equivalent traditional cabinet speaker (in it's own cabinet) there are more variables and negative factors to have to negate or compensate for, so more needs to be done (and more money spent) with them to get them to produce the same level of quality output.
So, simply, you wouldn't need to spend as much on a good pair of cabinet (eg. bookshelf) speakers to sound as good as an equally good sounding pair of in-walls or in-ceilings. Re: Home Theatre Speakers 7Sep 11, 2008 11:35 am Ok, I've decided to go with free-standing speakers for the home theatre.
Now I need some help with the placement of these ... particularly height. This is my current plan ... Front left & right - 1000mm above floor (ear level) Front centre - 500mm above floor (lowered from ear level to clear projector screen) Side & Rear surrounds - 2000mm above floor Questions: 1 Does the centre has to be at the same height as the left & right? if so, can I place it behind the screen? 2 Do the surrounds need to be raised/ lowered than above level? And do they need to be angeled downwards towards the seating? My theatre is 3.6m x 5.2m ... For horizontal placement I'm thinking of following this diagram Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Home Theatre Speakers 8Sep 11, 2008 4:13 pm Diagram is good enough.
Centre can be below screen (almost all are). To but one behind the screen means getting a micro-perforated screen which costs heaps more, does not reflect quite as much light and obstructs some of the sound coming from the centre speaker.
