Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 05, 2008 7:58 am Hi all. Love the forum - great idea.
I'm on the hunt for a new ducted heating system, installed and all. But I'm not having great confidence in the people that have quoted me so far. I deceded to look into the details myself (as you do to protect yourself against bad advice) but there doesn't seem to be documentation readily available for joe average. I'm after Brivis guidelines on what size of heater they recommend to heat what volume of house, ducts per zone, exactly how the networker controls the dapmers etc - you know, that kind of technical info that goes a bit deeper than the very fluffy yellow duck brochure that is pretty slim on details. I would have expected this info to be available at the Brivis web site but no go . I rang Brivis and asked if I could get this info but they said they would not hand it out to Joe public because of botched home installs. The bottom line is that I'm asking installers what size of heater I need to heat my home (amongst a whole bunch of other questions) and the justification to their recommendation thus far is effectively "cause thats about the size you need" I'd like at least one of them to at least ask or measure the house and look at the lifestyle/zoning and base a decision on *some* kind of fact! Can anyone help here? HC Re: Brivis info not so readily available... 3Sep 08, 2008 8:59 am We just called 3 places and asked for quotes based on floor plans being faxed through. Didn't take long to see that they all specified the same size unit. Do a google for the Brivas model you are interested in and you should find a fair bit of info. If you don't get anything let me know and I can scan in the doco they provided to us for our quotes.

I appreciate the offer, that's fantastic! But it's not just the heater size in question. I have this one under control. The size of the heater was just an example to illustrate of the lack of skill/training that I am seeing in the people that are trying to quote me a new heater. Come to mentioning a configuration of zoning with the use of multiple thermostats and dampers, and these guys are left in the dark! This is why I wanted to get hold of some tech specs so that at least I am prepared to 'help' the guy that wasn't sure if you could run two thermostats or not Unfirtunately, I guess I have to go to a bigger (and probably more expensive) company if I can't get the info I need... HC Re: Brivis info not so readily available... 5Sep 08, 2008 10:51 am We asked about zoning and the advice was that it was not really needed as the heater has enough capacity to do the entire house and there is not a lot of energy benefit to be gained from zoning. However for comfort we went with 3 zones basically giving us a day/night configuration and guest room separate.
We also put in extra ducts to bathroom and en suite (nice for cold mornings) this was only about $90 for each. Our system comes with a controller that allows for timed start stop and will control the Brivas Evap cooling from the same controller. If you are not getting good advice go elsewhere, we had to go to quite a few before we found a sales consultant that knew anything more than the price. regards sean Re: Brivis info not so readily available... 6Sep 08, 2008 11:17 am "we had to go to quite a few before we found a sales consultant that knew anything more than the price"
Yup. I'm hearing you. Hey, your guest room was a separate zone? A single duct separate zone? HC Re: Brivis info not so readily available... 7Jan 15, 2009 9:40 am Hi Sean
Just wondering who you went with for your aircon and what system you used? We're also in Adelaide, building in Prospect and have a quote from the builder (who use Climat) and want to get a couple more quotes.
