Real Timber floor laying Perth

Hi All

We have got quotes from Perth Floor Centre and Floors 2 Go to do 100 metres of Marri.

Has anyone used either of these companies, or can suggest someone who can supply and lay marri.

From what i read there are some real cowboys out there.

Ive had a really BAD time with floorboards as the first company we decided with took our $11k deposit and then went bankrupt a few weeks later..... but thats another story!
Have shopped around again... but this time finding it hard trusting anyone!! Think if we make a decision to go with timber flooring, we will go to Perth Timber Floors in Mt Lawley. We have dealt with Amanda, a really nice helpful lady who is not pushy, a fab product offered and very happy with the service they have to offer... plus they dont ask for deposit!

Sorry to piggyback off this thread but thought it better than starting another flooring thread.

Has anyone use Wholesale Timber Flooring?

Their prices look almost too good to be true compared to other quotes we have been given.

Not really sure if it's that cheap I am getting spotted gum 130x14 $140per sqm installed. and your place on the website says the same product it's $188/m2 installed

They have quoted us plank on ply 130x14 Blackbutt for $13,000 installed everyone else has quoted us between $16-20,000 for the same or thinner boards.

Perth Timber flooring where almost $16,000 for 90x10 direct stick

Guess it depends on there supplier. She said the product we're getting is usually around $200 sq metre installed but the supplier is giving them a huge discount deal at the moment so we got it got 140.

I'm new to the forum and new to building so would be grateful to anyone who can help!
My fiance & i are building our first home and wanting to put in solid timber floors. He's a bit anal when it comes to the product so engineered or laminate are not options for us.

We've been quoted $13,500 for approx. 90sqm of what the company called Roasted Peat but i understand it is an Eastern States Blackbutt in a matte rather than gloss. Price includes install & beading. We've been asked for a 15% deposit upfront then 90% of the balance prior to sealing & sanding and remainder at completion. Does this sound right??

Also, how important is it that the flooring company is an ATFA member? I noticed a few company names suggested on this thread are not but that doesnt seem to impact their product... I guess what i'm trying to ask is, is there a way to know if you're going to be taken for a run or not.

In wa I know it's illegal to request more than 6.5% deposit for flooring.

That is not accurate. Sorry to disagree, but that is not the case at all.

Any purchase over $7500 any deposits must not exceed 6.5%

Be interesting to hear at what part of the Act you disagree with?

AC27, good to know and thanks for posting. Unfortunately a lot of people do not know the laws and think that they can put clauses in that remove your rights and override the law. The most common one is "strictly no refunds" in a lot of instances this is not allowed either but many do it.

When a family member and their best friend were faced with a similar situation and the seller was being very cocky about how he had clearly stated that no refunds were to be given if notice was not within a certain period, the friend who has a law practice replied "I am only informing of your wrong doing and discussing further may possibly compromise the legal case I will bring against you for contravention of .........Act etc: Refund given same day....

Sorry for the side track and HNF I appreciate that you are not trying to dupe anyone.

You are correct. The only time that this can form part of the sale is when a product is sold as a second or "as is" and is sold already knowingly faulty or damaged. Australian Consumer Laws that came into effect last year in Jan protect consumers from this type of thing.

Hi,

Not sure if the sale of product from a retailer to a consumer falls under the building act. If it forms part of your building contract, then that's fine, but the way your post was worded infers any flooring sold to a customer falls under that, regardless of the vendor. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.

That will be an Act that is about a contract between a builder and a consumer we think.

I guess the point is that one should know which rules covers their scenario so that advantage is not taken. To be honest I would not have thought anything about paying 10-15% but it is good to know and I am now better armed.

The act goes into Detail and says it does not have to be a registered builder that falls into this catergory. Pm your email address I can forward it to you tonight if you like it's only a page or so of info. I actually got forwarded this document myself from a flooring company.

what flooring company are you using in perth? have they been around for long and does there showroom show alot of there product??? have been looking at tiles because i thought a friend who is a really good tiler could help me out but thats not the case and unsure where to find a good tiler to lay pocilain tiles so now going back to my first thought of laying solid hardwood so if u can let me know who your using and possible top three companys you have had delt with... price is important but not the be all end all as id pay more for a really great job by a well known company that will cover there warrentys

perth flooring company I believe. Based Mnt Lawley. Very happy with the job done and I believe about 25 years as the same guy that did my flooring has been with the company that long. I had visited the showroom my wife did. But the spotted gum came out really well couldn't fault the job, and I am tradesman so I notice lots of defects.
