Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 04, 2013 9:02 am So we have almost finished the renovation to our home (yipee!) but am stuck on the last thing - wardrobe door colour! Walls are 1/2 hogs bristle below picture rail and 1/4 strength above. All trims and doors are builders white gloss (so small bit of black in the white). The wardrobe doors are mdf sliding with alum trim. We had planned to paint them gloss white as what we thought was standard (the kids have existing wardrobes with hanging doors that we painted a gloss white) but the painter suggested doing it in the wall colour so that it blends and because its easier to paint mdf will semi then gloss (the wardrobe doors have a routed square in them which he said was the main prob with gloss as its quite rough). the issue i have is that the second doors at the top are above the picture rail so the colour wont match the wall up there - do we paint it all 1/2 or split it 1/2 and 1/4 although the doors are about a foot above the pict rail... or do we stick to the white gloss? We painted the entire internal of our house but have had enough now so have hired a painter for this last bit and cant seem to make a decision!! BTW he comes tomorrow so need to make a quick decision!!! What do you think?! Re: wardrobe door colour 2Apr 04, 2013 1:59 pm We did our boys sliding robe doors in our trim colour, which was gloss white to match all the other doors, arcs, skirting in the house. It sounds like your painter just wants to do whats easier for him. Re: wardrobe door colour 4Apr 04, 2013 2:37 pm Are all your other doors white? If so, wouldnt it flow better with the wardrobe doors also the same. It really comes down to personal taste. Have a look at this website its fantastic for inspiration www.houzz.com/ search wardrobe doors or similar. Re: wardrobe door colour 5Apr 04, 2013 2:53 pm If it were me, I'd go all white to match the archs and skirts and all the other internal doors, but it may depend on what style of house you have and what look you want to go for. I'm a bit traditional and probably wouldn't have a house that doesn't have all white woodwork...love the look! Maybe you need to post a photo and someone with the knack for photoshopping colours can do both so you can see what either looks like! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! All the doors and arcs are in white gloss -as is the kids wardrobe doors but they are only door high - not up to the ceiling. Perhaps more contemporary to paint them in the wall colour then in the white? They are framed in the white (like laminate - they were just from stegbar) so perhaps thats enough. But do i paint them all in 1/2 hog bristle or just the bottom ones (that go three quarters up the wall) and the top doors in 1/4? We have got 8 lts of 1/2 left so that could prob use that up.... After all they are just wardrobe doors....! Normally you use builders bog. Polyurethane painting is basically the same principle as car panel beating and painting.
