Cornice size for high ceilings

Here's an easy one...

What size cornices would people suggest for a house with a ceiling height of 2740mm?

75mm is standard, 90mm costs a fair bit extra.

We don't want them to be particularly fancy, the basic profile will suffice but I don't want them to seem under (or over) sized.

This obviously depends on the style of home and personal taste.

Personally, I prefer a wider decorative profile cornice of at least 90mm, but if you prefer a plainer style and your home is more modern/minimalist then the 75mm would look great.
It's there but not in your face, so to speak. There's probably lots of other items you could spend the $$$ on.

it was gonna be really expensive for us to upgrade our cornices and I couldn't see the value. There comes a point where you say I have upgraded enough...

It really depends on your style. Personally i think larger cornice really makes a place look better. This is probably because I am not a fan of modern style. Having said that a lot of my friends wouldn't even notice what size the cornice was. If you are going for modern I would be tempted to go with no cornice.

Definitely 90mm in my opinion. In a large room with high ceilings 75mm would look out of proportion I think.

We have 2740 ceilings with 90mm cornice in our house - there are plenty of pics in my build thread.

None - square set.

As others have said - it comes down to personal preference and the style/look that you are going for. As PAB has stated square set is another option for you to consider - albeit probably the most expensive option

We have 2740 ceilings throughout our place and went with a combination of square set in the house common areas (living, kitchen, bathrooms and hall) and 90mm Cove cornice in the bedrooms. This has provided a modern/sleek look in the common areas, and a warm/intimate feeling in the bedrooms.

If budget is a concern there are plenty of other things to spend your $$$ on - I think you would be perfectly fine with 75mm cornices. (it's 15mm difference which is hard to notice 2.7 metres away..)

If you were talking about 55mm It would be a different story. Good luck with your decision

That's interesting. We're going to have high ceilings and I always thought bigger cornices would make it look shorter, and that smaller cornices would actually look better! I wish there was someway to have sample photos side by side, both 2.7m high ceilings, one with big and one with small cornice.
