We'll soon be demolishing our 1940's house in the Melbourne suburb of East Bentleigh, in preparation for building with Marshall Baker Homes. Much to our horror, it seems that the rental market for 3 bedroom houses in the area is super competitive.
Where do I start ? The 15 minute "cattle yard" inspections, the absoloute lack of respect that some estate agents demonstrate to renters, or the awful dungers of houses with stained walls, grotty kitchens and tottering pseudo-sheds in the backyard ? I've certainly re-evaluated our current place from looking at the rentals on offer !
You'd think there'd be a niche somewhere that we could fill as short term renters, but it seems the estate agents only have one way to engage renters. "Would you like to see our rental property list" then it's the usual story of waiting to be advised that a property is actually leased (probably was even before the enquiry, they just keep you as a contingency), or off to the cattleyard inspection
If there's some miracle website for this kind off stuff I haven't found it yet, and as I mentioned estate agents seem to have no interest in taking our details in case a limited fixed term lease comes up. I guess they're in it for long term sustainable dollars, rather than exception cases. I'm kind of thinking that 'fessing up on the need for only a short team lease would probably predjudice our chances of getting anything anyway.
I guess this is more of a rant than anything alse, but if anyone can suggest possible solutions I'd be all ears.
Thanks for reading,
Justin.
