Browse Forums Home Finance 1 Oct 15, 2010 10:03 am We have just built and moved in to our first home. We got a keystart loan and the first homebuyers grant. Now we have just found out that due to work we will have to move. We have only lived here for 2 weeks!!! I know that you have to occupy the house for at least 6 months to avoid paying back the first homebuyers but does anyone know about the first homebuyers rate of stamp duty and keystart and of they have any conditions about how long you have to occupy the property for. Re: having to pay back First homebuyers grant and keystart? 2Oct 18, 2010 9:57 pm I am unsure about Keystart, you might need to talk to a WA mortgage broker to have your question answered. As for the grant you are required to live in the property for six months, starting within the first 12 months. You can call the department of your state government who processes the grant and discuss this with them as they can give special exceptions in extenuating circumstances. They usually only do this for the armed forces when they are posted overseas etc, however it wouldn't hurt to ask. Re: having to pay back First homebuyers grant and keystart? 3Oct 23, 2010 9:26 pm Check the wording of the conditions. There is a difference between "living in" and "primary place a residence". This of course is dependant upon whether you will be selling the place. If you sell, it then no amount of semantics is going to help. If this is a work required move, versus choosing to move to get work, then you may also be able to discuss the matter with your employer and come to some sort of arrangement. Re: having to pay back First homebuyers grant and keystart? 4Nov 16, 2010 12:54 pm I'd suggest just calling Keystart anonymously and ask them directly and explain your situation. They'll let you know exactly where you sit. I havent, and i havent looked to much into it, but on face value its not the saviour its trying to make out to be.
