First post yay! What an excellent resource you all have built here =)
I jumping onto the deep end and have decided to purchase a vacant lot in WA to build a house few years down the track.
I qualify for the FHB and was wondering if I have to pay stamp duty for this lot?
I'm getting conflicting answers from the agent and the broker hmpf...Can someone enlighten me on this issue?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you buy a block only you don't qualify for the FOHG or boost as you aren't technically buying/building a "house". And yes you do have to pay stamp duty on it if you don't build a house on it straight away, but then you don't pay stamp duty on the house portion when it comes time to build.
At least this is what my broker told us when we were looking at this option?

Hello, just an update. I called DTF =)
They confirned that FHB like myself must pay stamp duty on vacant lot of land. I can then apply for the FHOG when I have a building contract, and they will recalculate and refund the duty. So yeah, basically I pay 6k, and they may refund me later =(

I second the gumtree option - just search for "sandstone boulders" or something similar and you should get a few options. Keep searching over a week or two because new…

I really like this idea. I don't know if it will work, but its surely worth a shot. I suggest you try writing to companies as well. Ex: LG, Samsung, Bosch etc.
