Browse Forums Home Finance 1 Apr 15, 2009 8:59 am Beware of this. I received a letter in February from SRO saying that my FHOG application was successful, but I never actually received it. I called SRO and was told that it's been paid to the bank (whose Mortgage CSR offered to help me with the application), and that I should follow up with the bank. Only after I called the bank, I found out that I should've chased this up earlier. They are WAITING for INSTRUCTIONS!!! Well then I told the CSR that I would like it to be paid ASAP into my offset account. BTW, I could swear I've put this account number in the FHOG application form. 1 week had passed but I'm yet to see the money coming, so I made another call. Guess what? I was told no instructions have been made, so it's another 2 days of waiting. The bank in this story is one of the major banks that boast being home lender of the year for the last 7 years or so... (can't remember and honestly don't care) starting with an "A" ending with a "Z". Am I being stupid? Well, lesson's learnt. That's a ( $26,000 * 5.9% * number_of_days_the_money_not_in_my_account / 365 ) dollar mistake. Don't make the same mistake: 1. Try to fill in the application form yourself even if the lender offers you help 2. If the lender helps submitting the form, keep chasing them as soon as you receive the letter from SRO.
