Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Dec 26, 2019 3:53 am Hi, So far my kitchen downlight plan is the one of the left but I’m thinking the one on the right should be better because the light will be above the working areas of the bench and sink therefore not casting any shadows. But I’ve also heard that downlights shouldn’t be too close to the walls thats why I think the plan of the left has them a bit further out. Should I keep my lights as the left plan or change it to the right plan? They have a projected angle and you generally set them so the projecting shadow line is not to far down the wall. If it is lower down the wall then you need to move them closer to the wall and add more down lights. But in saying that people still put them close to a wall if they need a lot of light, like over a vanity for makeup if they don’t want other lights. Re: Kitchen LED downlights Help 5Dec 26, 2019 12:45 pm We don’t want pendant lights because we don’t like the look of the hanging strings. Apparently the lights are meant to be placed in front of you so your not casting shadows over where you work. Currently the downlights are about 1m apart from each other. Yea maybe I could put overhead cupboards and use only 2 middle downlights. Any other opinions? Re: Kitchen LED downlights Help 6Dec 26, 2019 2:19 pm bobjane I am in the same situation with the same kitchen layout. It seems that 5 - 6 will be too much. In addition, one LED would be ~7W so it totals to 35W - 42W just for the kitchen area. I am leaning towards 1 oyster in the center with 12W to 15 maybe and pendant for the kitchen bench. Just does not know how it would look to be honest. Let me know how you go. Hey ir0nbark1 I think we will follow the advice here and go with 3 different types on lights each with their own switches to save on electricity and also control the lighting better. RED: Pendant light over bench GREEN: General layout lighting - LED downlight for sink area and middle of kitchen BLUE: Overhead cupboard lighting for food prep area and Rangehood standard led lighting for cooking Thanks for the advice all Re: Kitchen LED downlights Help 8Dec 26, 2019 5:20 pm Your pantry will be in shadow with the central light behind you. And 3 lights there will catch all oil residue from your cooking later on. The blue lights are just rangehood and cabinet lighting under overheads.
