Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Sep 23, 2008 10:11 pm Hi guys,
Need to ask your opinion on what light to use in our kitchen. We are going to have 3 pendant lights on top of the island bench... Then there's another batten at the middle of the kitchen. any suggestions of what light to put in? thanks! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 2Sep 23, 2008 10:40 pm I prefer downlights in the kitchen especially over the benches and definately focus a couple to the underbench of the overhead cupboards. I'd try to tie it in.... what about a simple oyster that compliments the pendants?
I guess some type of oyster is your best bet... Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Something that doesn't take away from your pendants. Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 6Sep 24, 2008 12:13 pm Hi. I think kitchens need lots and lots of light and the best way to do it is with flourescent lights. There are a lot of options I think, but a few I like (depending on pendants in other areas or not) are:

Don't like the look of oyster in the kitchen We're using it for the 3 bedrooms upstairs. Good idea Greg on the flourescent light... something fancy (not like the one in our garage ).. though i'm also thinking of those rods with small lights attached? just noticed though that wattage is too high. better if multiple lights with smaller wattage. don't know what they're called though. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 11Sep 26, 2008 9:26 pm Oh I like the 3rd one too!
I also like what donuts suggested! That's what I've been describing... sort of multiple lights attached in a rod (i saw one but not circular) Hmm... might have to visit Beacon and Light Up Australia tomorrow! Thanks guys! More suggestion would be appreciated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! I think if you have pendants you wont want anything to stand out apart from them. I would just go for downlights. Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 15Sep 26, 2008 9:58 pm Quote: How close is the dining to the kitchen? We are using square fluorescents in the kitchen. It's approx 2 metres from the bench to the dining area. Quote: I think if you have pendants you wont want anything to stand out apart from them. I would just go for downlights. We didn't go for downlights all over the house (just entry, HT and family). We just asked for 4 battens to the kitchen (3 above the benchtop and 1 in the middle of the kitchen). Flourescent is a good idea... because we are having round downlights in the family, we might as well go for the round flourescent that was suggested by Greg (3rd light)... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 16Sep 26, 2008 10:32 pm My honest opinion VJ is that I wouldn't put a pendant in the middle of the kitchen as well as 3 pendants over the bench, it could look too much and the 3 pendants would be a great feature by themselves Re: What light to use in the kitchen? 17Sep 27, 2008 11:28 pm I'm really undecided...
we should have put some downlights (2 at least) in the kitchen so I won't have to worry about it after handover... I should have listened to our electrical consultant.. she was suggesting downlights.. but I said no. I'm even having a hard time looking for a suitable lighting to the toilets ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping!
