Is there any specific reason for this... like heat dissipation ? or is it just for the aesthetics ? Are they chrome or stainless steel? Either way, chrome plating or steel may be slight more expensive than paint. Or it could be that they think the market differentiates chrome or steel as more luxurious so they are taking the opportunity to charge more. It could also be that they proportionally sell far more white ones, and so the unit cost of production is lower. kidu13 Also, aesthetics wise, which one do most people prefer - white or chrome or black ? It depends on the theme in your house. Some prefer white, because it blends in better when the ceilings are painted white or a shade or white, thus reducing what is known as "ceiling acne". However, if you have thought through your colour scheme and have decided on steel or black fixtures, such as light fittings, fans, smoke detectors, etc, or if you are painting your ceilings black or a colour, then steel or black downlighting might suit better.
