Anyway, currently all the lights are either small frosted oysters or small plain dome-type lights. I want the domes replaced with the existing small oysters (just move them around and chuck out the domes) and the existing small oysters replaced with new larger and nicer oysters. Also the dome in the kitchen is being replaced with a lovely 4 directional light. But I'm worried there's NO access to the wiring in the ceiling to change these lights around. I'm hoping the electrician won't need to do anything with wiring that would require him to get into the ceiling void. Is it ever possible that there's simply just no access to the ceiling if you're on the ground floor of a tall building? I WANT NEW LIGHTS!!!! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Can I get new lights installed on the ground floor? 2Sep 03, 2008 9:29 pm This happens all the time, and I wouldn't expect there to be a need to access the ceiling. Usually there is some slack/spare cable in the ceiling space to allow light fittings to be changed. Unless of course it's a concrete ceiling (may have a rough-looking vermiculite coating) - then there will be even less slack/spare cable for your electrician to play with... Re: Can I get new lights installed on the ground floor? 3Sep 04, 2008 9:49 am Hmm…well, I don’t know if it’s concrete, but I know the walls are cement bricks or something, the floor slab is concrete, and the ceiling is that old fashioned sort of…like seagull’s feet have walked all over it…type of ceiling. Lol. You know? Not smooth, and sort of a feature. Very low ceiling as well. In the bathrooms and hallway (which are lower than the rest of the apartment in terms of the ceiling height), I can touch the ceiling with my whole hand flat on the ceiling with my elbow bent at my mid-face.
Anyway, we’ll buy our new lights (making sure we can return them if by some HIDEOUS OCCURRENCE we can’t install them at all), get the electrician in and see what happens. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Hi everyone, Looking for some advise. We are about to build an above ground pool in our backyard. There is a private sewer line running under the pool at 1.6m… 0 11758 Hi, I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm doing this post correctly. Please advise if it's not. I've just bought my place.
