Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 May 03, 2017 9:26 am We have Clipsal Saturn light switches in our living areas. There were no dimmers installed so I'm wondering if they can still be fitted. Does anyone know? Can dimmers be retro fitted? 2May 03, 2017 10:08 am It depends a bit on your lights, as some LEDs and fluros do not play nice with dimmers. However, if your lights are OK, there are all-in-one light switch and dimmer mechs, which means you could change them over without having to replace the entire switch. However, they are pretty expensive, so maybe simpler radial dimmers and your current mech with a new plate may be cheaper. You'll need to do the calculations. Re: Can dimmers be retro fitted? 3May 03, 2017 8:40 pm Thanks.....we went with expensive plates so won't be changing those. I guess we'll just use lamps for low lighting... Re: Can dimmers be retro fitted? 5May 07, 2017 8:29 am You may also need to replace the lights if they are LED luminaires. They have devices called "drivers" and these can either be dimmable or non-dimmable. If the drivers are external you can just replace the driver, but if they are integrated into the luminaire then you have to replace the whole thing. That is just not true. There are all in one button and dimmers available that you can use on a one to one swap. They are expensive, but you would have to pay for rotary dimmers also, so the cost difference is minimal Cabac push button dimmer on eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122044428846 Clipsal push button dimmer on eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201920660455 Clipsal rotary dimmer on eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/201923729562 These are the cheapest I could find.
