Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Aug 02, 2008 6:29 pm The kitchen light in our new apartment is one of those standard not overly attractive or interesting round dome/oyster type fluoro lights with the tube thing.
We want a beautiful light we saw at this place called Andrew's Light Up, which is 4 small directional lights mounted on a square aluminium tile (which looks more like a sandstone type tile). LOVE IT!! We're just about ready to order it (it's been reduced from the original price of about $195 to $112, but I got a quote direct from them by email and they've quoted me the special price of $101), but then I had a worrying thought... Will the removal of the current round oyster type light leave marks on the ceiling? Like holes where that light fitting is screwed in? What if the new square light is slightly smaller than the round one, and the marks are visible?? Would we need to have it puttied and repainted and stuff?? I hope not! We're getting the painting done long before anything else. Thank you! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Replacing fluoro round tube light in kitchen with... 2Aug 03, 2008 9:56 am Hi Gace,
it really depends on the size of the light you are putting up. If it is bigger, you should be able to cover the holes, the sparky may even be able to use existing holes for mounting. also depends on where the cable entry is, some are in the middle, some are offset. I am slowly looking at renovating our place. I am starting with lights and powerpoints first, so as i can patch all holes before painting. My order of work is going to be Lights and powerpoints ( lighting in this place is horrible and will affect the paint colour) Kitchen (new cabinets) tiling (splashback) painting. I'm not sure if this is the correct order, but it is the one that makes most sense to me. Sorry i can't be more help Re: Replacing fluoro round tube light in kitchen with... 3Aug 03, 2008 11:09 am If you're worried about the marks, can you remove the original light fitting before you get the painting done, so all putty-ing/filling etc will be done, then you can cut holes for the new light fitting if need be... and just have a lamp in the kitchen until it's done? Re: Replacing fluoro round tube light in kitchen with... 4Aug 03, 2008 2:09 pm Actually, yeah, I don't see any reason why we can't get that particular light all organised and replaced before the painting. *dumb* lol Thank you! We will do that. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! You don't want to be going to all that trouble and not covering the old hole. We have many lights on display! Hi - thanks for your reply.
