Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 11, 2015 12:35 am Hi All, Trying to work out what may look good in my dining area. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The ceilings are 38c. The floors will be most likely a light travertine colour or crema marfil. the adjacent island is white macubus and the walls are while and the kitchen cupboards are gloss white. I know a lot of white. I think the table will be a large wood table probably 2.2m by 1.4m and should seat 10 persons. With the above in mind what are peoples thoughts on the following choices. 1. Artichoke Light Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 2. Marcel Wanders Skygarden Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Both will be around 80 to 90cm wide and because of the high ceilings we can have a little drop. The second choice can also be in white as well. Thoughts or even other suggestions. I intend only to have one hanging light and am not having any other pendants so it has to be fairly largish and ideally I would like a bit of a centre piece. The house feel overall will be modern so was not thinking chandelier. Thanks in advance for the help. Ciao Mark Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 2Mar 11, 2015 2:02 am I like the second in black to contrast with the white that you already have, it's s more miniilist design. Also sometimes it's hard to match varying whites and the first one all I can think about is having to dust it especially if it is hung high <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 3Mar 11, 2015 9:15 am Thanks AKB, you have a good point about the whites. It may start to look very clinical. My wife said the same thing about dusting...... Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 4Mar 11, 2015 9:38 am I think the second one. The artichoke light looks a bit retro to me. I've seen the large dome light used effectively in a few magazines. If you go the black, I'd also suggest using black somewhere else, maybe in the furnishings, so it doesn't look too out of place. I think white would look ok too though, it's a different texture to the glossy cabinets, and the white macubus is I think a pale greyish colour? Do you have a photo of the slab? Edit: Just googled the slab, very pretty! I think either black or white would be fine. viewtopic.php?t=72683 Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 5Mar 11, 2015 10:18 am Thanks Trixee, yes i am leaning towards the way of the second one. I have seen them in both colours and both are good. Actually when turned on the internal colour will take on teh hue from the light so it will look different again. cool. Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 6Mar 12, 2015 6:03 am Personally, with all the white, I would go for something bold, bright and colourful. Perhaps a cluster of 2 or 3 small bright pendants of different colours. Maybe some bright artwork on the walls too. Nothing wrong with lots of white, leaves a great blank canvas for other cool stuff! That was the exact thinking I had. My preference was to be very neutral colour wise on the walls and introduce colour, that way if I get tired of a look I will simply change the colour (Picture or Object). The dining area is the only area where I have gone for a pendant as all other lights are led down lights and light troughs. I will have some lamps in the living areas too. Agree 100%. It's easy to change a painting or a pendant light. Not so easy to replace bright red kitchen cabinets... The Artichoke makes a bigger statement than the Skygarden, however both are unique in their own right. Replicas exist online, and are great value for money, as long as they are a premium replica. But I also like 1960sMH suggestions of a couple of lights since your ceiling is very high, I think you can have a few pendants of varying lengths Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 12Apr 04, 2015 10:14 pm Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 14Apr 05, 2015 1:31 am Yep I liked the tom dixon lights but decided against having pendents. I like a lot of the lights suggested but was leaning towards the skygarden because of its simplicity and size. I wanted to have a large single light as a center piece above the table. In my case, more choice means more indecision! I've been mulling over a dining table pendant for over a year now (I've just had a cable poking out of the ceiling). Finally biting the bullet and ordering the Tom Dixon copper shade and a miniature version for over the bath tub in one of our bathrooms. I have always hated the idea of pendants in bathrooms but the contrast of the shiny copper with the matt marble tiles is just too awesome to pass up. Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 17Apr 05, 2015 12:52 pm Oooh now I had penned down an led down light over the tub but must admit a tom Dixon ball would be nice. Silver would set off the grohe Tapware. Oh boy, does it stop. Re: Thoughts on which Light for my Dining Area 18Apr 07, 2015 2:47 pm Always love the artichoke lamp.
