Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Dec 17, 2014 11:08 pm I know that there have been many LED downlight threads but I wonder if anyone has any advice or experiences with specific LED downlights and the Clipsal Saturn dimmers. I particularly want to know if the downlights can go down low with the dimmer. Most downlights claim to be dimmable but they often only say that they have only been tested with their particular brand of dimmer - not useful for us as we are pretty set on the Saturn switches which apparently don't accomodate other dimmers well. We would particularly be interested in the wider angle (ie greater than 60 degree) downlights. Given the ubuiquity of the clipsal dimmers I do find it is frustrating that there is relatively little data. From googling I think I have established the following: - Brightgreen d900 do not dim well at all with Saturns (at least not very far). Don't know about D900+ - probably want something wider beam anyway. - M-elec D15+ do dim well with Saturn - these seem hard to get on line. - Lumitex Baricade dim well - but narrow beam. - Unsurprisingly the clipsal downlights work with Saturn - I hardly hear anything about these - does anyone have any experience with them. Other brands we have considered but can find little data about are the Wattsavers DL 9-1200; Martec Shadowline; Lucci Led lux Infinity. Thanks Re: Advice or experiences with dimming LED with Clipsal Satu 2Dec 17, 2014 11:23 pm I have the 11w throughout my house and 15w in my kitchen I find then a nice wide beam 150degrees and reasonably priced. I think I paid around $40 for the 11w when I bought these They dim nicely I have the impress push dimmers in my house now Re: Advice or experiences with dimming LED with Clipsal Satu 3Dec 17, 2014 11:25 pm Not sure about this but I have had a dispute between an owner and Clipsal that I was involved in regarding the Saturn series switches. The complaint was that if you have a three way switch only two led surrounds can bit illuminated and the third is not. They don't make it clear in their brochure and the client thought it was faulty when it was actually the way the product is. Clipsal need to develop a relay switch in order to allow all three way switch surrounds to illuminate. so basically beware if you require. Three way switch with this model as this is what will happen. We noticed this convo going on recently and thought we’d share some product info that might be useful in the discussion. As a whole, dimmer and LED compatibility is becoming more complex due to the vast amount of LED manufacturers with different designs and levels of performance. The best option for assurance of compatibility with dimmers and LEDs is to match the Clipsal Dimmers with the Clipsal LEDs exactly. In regards to Saturn specifically, the push button dimmer offers adjustable minimum setting to allow a wide control range of LEDs. The LED indicator also meets the recommendation of Australian Safety standards by providing indication that the load is on. At very low dimming levels some LED Downlight lamps may not be visible so this LED indicator shows the user that the Dimmer is still on.
