We will have a passageway we want to light at night. It is just under 5 m in length and has a door at one end and at the other there is a bend in the passageway where the front door entry is. This has a standard battern light.
We have decided we'd like ot get a few downlights to light this passageway. For 5 m will 2 downlights be ok? We are not looking for full on standard lighting but rather some guide lighting that is not too dim.
After conversations with one of the building consultants who is a keen
"lighting " person he suggested we look at 12 volt downlights. The ones with the transformer that switch off if they start to get too hot. We have the batts type insulation not blow in. They are also shielded. ( as in the protective bit around them) he has suggested going with the builders standard 50 watt ones and then once we are in he'll give us the name of who to see to get different light types. i.e. 10%, 35% or the 60% coverage type bulbs.
We are both happier with the look of the 35% coverage ones than the spotlighting effect of the 10% ones.
We are also considering having 3 put in over the 4.5 m of main bench space in the kitchen over our granite bench top and one over the cook top on the opposite side of the kitchen. We would still have 2 standard lights in the kitchen as well. Blue dots are the standard lights and orange the downlights.
Comments everyone? I haven't added any other additional light info on this page. In case you are wondering there will be a heater/light/fan in the ensuite as well as the downlight over the sink.
