Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 08, 2008 6:03 pm I saw this balcony the other day in our building and it had 3 downlights spaced evenly in the ceiling, lighting the balcony. It looked really good. I want this for our ground floor patio/balcony!
It's a lot bigger than this balcony I saw, but I'd only want say 4 downlights going along in a row to light it. My concerns are... - Price and difficulty of having them installed by someone. - Safety in terms of sealing and water getting in. We find sometimes the rain and wind can get so violent around here that water literally blows horizontally and will come in directly under the balcony ceiling and get into the light fitting. This happened once and we lost power. What would happen if this occurred with downlights? Fire? Total ruinage of the lights and fittings? - Safety in terms of fire risk. I read something about not putting downlights in certain types of ceilings. I don't know what the ceiling of our patio would be made of...concrete or brick cavity or some such thing. - The downlights themselves I like in a lighting shop aren't too expensive, but do you need transformer things or anything else? What are they and how much do they tend to be? - I see there are a few different types of downlights...the square ones that are completely in the ceiling, or the ones that seem to partially curve and come out a bit and have a little cup over them sort of...which is easier to change and which is safer, if any, for outside? Thanks so much, people! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: How much to install 4 downlights in patio ceiling? 2Jun 17, 2008 11:37 pm hi there grace_slick,
i have answered other questions of yours, but have you thought to consort with an electrician? They will actually come out at no charge for a quote, and then you milk them for ideas. And, that's when you start to shop for fittings! They will tell you whats good or not, and what will work in your particular application, and what won't. Hope that helps. They make the room much easier to clean for one, reflect more light (if light colour tiles are used), and you dont end up with dust on the top edge of tiles (cause most… 3 9592 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16122 Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7775 |
