Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Sep 08, 2014 4:02 pm Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help because I am clueless. I have been to two lighting shops in Perth. One supplies an LED (cost of unit + bulb about $82) and bulb can be replaced. The other costs about $60 but the whole thing needs to be replaced. I don't really understand the implications. Can the unit (is it a transformer?) blow in the first one in which case there seems to be little benefit to having a replaceable bulb? Sorry if this is a stupid question! Another LED question! Replaceable bulbs or not?? 2Sep 18, 2014 5:15 pm I put about 30 LED down lights in about 2 1/2 years ago. I have had 4 failures - all transformers. The first 2 were replaced under warranty. The last two I bought replacement power supplies of eBay for about $11 each. In my opinion the LEDs themselves are unlikely to fail, while power supplies are more likely due to heat and cheap capacitors (I can tell that is what failed in mine). Avoid units where the power supply is built in as you can't replace the power supply and heat can be more of a problem - leading to failure Hi, Apologies - I know there is plenty out there on this but struggling to put together the puzzle.
