Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jul 13, 2014 8:37 pm Hi. I'm having trouble reconciling functionality with aesthetics with regards to my dining & lounge room lighting. Our new house will have a large (6x9m) lounge - dining room. We'll need two ceiling fans in this room to keep us cool in summer so we'll have ceiling fan over (or near) our dining table. I was really hoping to have a fancy pendant light over my dining table (perhaps this one: http://www.wayfair.com.au/Hermosa-Cathe ... D1607.html) but can't with the fan there, so I'm wondering whether to have the pendant light in the middle of the room - essentially between the dining area and the lounge area. Would this look silly? Re: dining room pendant light vs fan location advice please 2Jul 14, 2014 12:42 am That's a tricky one. Are you sure you want a fan over the dining table though? It may make your food go cold faster. My parents have an air con vent over their table and it's sometimes annoying. Re: dining room pendant light vs fan location advice please 4Jul 21, 2014 4:38 pm Look at the space your fan is capable of cooling. You should be able to work it out from the specs. This might enable you to change the location of the fans rather than the light. I'm facing similar issues here but we recently installed a hunter Pacific eco2 and I'm thinking one well placed rather than 2 could be the way for us. The alternative would be to put our pendants toward a corner. Hanging pendants in the middle of nowhere defeats their purpose which is to serve as a decorative focal point. If you're thinking of using it as general lighting it will more than likely look poorly placed. Plus there's also the issue of striving that is created when you have lights too far below a ceiling fan. People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people.
