Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Feb 03, 2014 10:48 am Hi All, I am trying to work out what size pendant light I should install in the void of the house we are building. The void is 2m x 4.2m with the stairs running along one side of the void. The pendant light we are looking at is a round ball style and the diameters available are 65cm and 100cm. The 65cm one seems to be too small to fill up the void. My question is will the 100cm one be too big? I would prefer to get the 100cm one. Please let me know your thoughts. Here is the void in question: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thanks Re: Pendant Light for Void 2Feb 04, 2014 6:34 pm I would definitely suggest the 100cm, if its out of those 2 sizes available. There are other sizes also available. There are some great Pendants out there, its just a matter of what style you're after and of course budget. Please post some pics once its done! I thought is would be easier than cleaning the pendant. Time will tell whether its the right choice. I think if I was going pendent that I would want bigger rather than smaller. I like that light you have shown above. Please provide details. Cheers Mark Re: Pendant Light for Void 6Mar 19, 2014 4:05 pm Thanks for your help Andrew. I will definitely put up pics when we install the light. Can't wait Mark, the light is called C-U C-ME by Hive designs. Just Google it and you should be able to find info about it. It's hand made and is designed by a famous designer in the Philippines. The official distributor in Australia is KeZu. Here is a link to their website and this particular light: http://www.kezu.com.au/index.cfm?page=product&pid=1957 Re: Pendant Light for Void 7Mar 22, 2014 7:48 am No problem at all. Can't wait to see the pics. good luck with it! Saw the picture with the three clustered together in different sizes and that might be suitable for my void. But their site does not have any prices. Re: Pendant Light for Void 10Mar 22, 2014 2:27 pm @Mikeann can you PM me where you are getting those prices, they seem very good. Cheers Mark Re: Pendant Light for Void 12Mar 22, 2014 7:52 pm Thanks Mikeann, a bit more expensive than I thought. Might have to check it out next week before the purchase. Re: Pendant Light for Void 13Mar 23, 2014 5:08 pm wow that is expensive! I guess you can't put a price on something you love! looks great though Kind Regards, Kristin Lighting Expert Phone -1300 798 220 Email - service@golights.com.au Website - http://www.golights.com.au Re: Pendant Light for Void 14Apr 12, 2014 9:31 pm Debating on the size to get to place it above the dining table at the moment. Tossing between the 40cm and the 60cm one in brown. Was using this calculator and it suggests I should get the 60cm one (rectangle table width 120cm & height 73cm with 260cm ceiling) and hang it so the bottom of the pendant is 104cm from the ceiling. This leaves a 83cm clearance from the table top to the bottom of the pendant, ie 44cm clearance from the ceiling to top of the pendant. My wife thinks the 60cm will be too big, but I think the 40cm one will be too small. Tried to use the same calculator for the void space, but with the ceiling so high, it's always suggesting to hang the pendant below the first floor. But perhaps you can still use the pendant size it recommends. I also tried my kitchen bench dimensions (width 90cm & height 90cm with 240 ceiling), and it suggests 43cm-58cm pendants hanging 72cm above the counter top, or 78cm from the top of the ceiling to the bottom of the pendant. This sounds about right here, so perhaps the calculator is good advice. Re: Pendant Light for Void 15May 06, 2014 6:01 pm Here are some photos with the light installed. The house is still being completed and you'll noticed that there is one glass panel on the balustrade that is missing, the stairs aren't fully stained yet and there's still quite a bit to be done to the house. But gives you a bit of an idea of how it looks with the 1000mm light. Let me know what you think and if our light choice was a good one. I would have gone with the medium sized one, about the size of the inner ball. I was always under the impression to do things in thirds. Did you have to replace the prewired line? If so, how did you managed that? Re: Pendant Light for Void 17May 07, 2014 10:43 am pongie I don't know, looks a bit too big. I would have gone with the medium sized one, about the size of the inner ball. I was always under the impression to do things in thirds. Did you have to replace the prewired line? If so, how did you managed that? It looks big in the photos, but in person, it actually fills up the void nicely. If I got the medium size, I think it would have been too small and the space would have looked weird. I nearly fell over when the upgrade price was given. Re: Pendant Light for Void 19May 07, 2014 11:06 am AussieMark Wow the light looks great and I love the balustrade.... I am looking to have the same type of balustrade as well. I nearly fell over when the upgrade price was given. Thanks Mark. It looks even better at night when it is turned on. My friend does balustrade so he did it for me, much cheaper than going through the builder. I've been fortunate in that my builder allows me to bring some of my own trades in. Re: Pendant Light for Void 20May 18, 2014 9:34 am Mikeann, I think you've got the scale just right! Pongie, I love a good gimmick.
