We have sets of 2 downlights and sets of 4. 2) How high should you install exterior lights for a house with 2700mm ceilings + 2340mm high doors. Leave at the standard 1800 or increase to 2100mm? Re: Dimmable Downlights Posthandover + Exterior Lights 2Sep 02, 2013 1:36 pm Assuming the lights are compatible you can add a dimmer to the switch plate on the wall any time you like. You may need to change the face plate to match the dimmer or there are some that will fit into the switch. Re: Dimmable Downlights Posthandover + Exterior Lights 3Jan 08, 2014 5:33 pm As long as the lights you have installed are dimmable, then you shouldnt have a problem. If it is only 1x existing switch on the wall, you can buy a dimmer from any electrical wholesaler, and it comes with a new switch and dimmer, that will replace the existing switch. If you have more than one switch, lets say 2x, you will need to buy a dimmer only, and a 3x gang switch grid to accommodate your existing switches, and new dimmer. Your electrician will know which brand to buy regarding the switch grid. There are usually 2x types of dimmers. Trailing edge and leading edge. Depending on what light you have installed, you will need to buy what suits. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions.
