Hoping people can give me some advise as to where to place out outside lights. We are building with PD and have chosen the Malvern facade. Not sure where to get the wiring put for the front lights. Have decided either on the front of the portico or the garage. One or the other (marked in red). I will have a downlight in the portico if that makes a difference. Please add your opinions and vote via the poll. Thanks in advance. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Advise on Outside Lighting 6Apr 30, 2008 11:36 am I agree with BOTH as well. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Advise on Outside Lighting 7Apr 30, 2008 11:48 am OK, thinking a little outside the square but, what about this?:
One on the LHS of the garage, 2 on the portico and one on the RHS corner of the house or alternatively the front room pictured? Then it doesn't look too busy and the whole or most of the facade is illuminated and not just a bit of it?? ![]() ![]() Re: Advise on Outside Lighting 8Apr 30, 2008 11:56 am One above center of garage and 2 on portico.
Never too much outside lighting, think about hearing a noise outside and switching on all that lighting knowing anyone out there is going to want to get away into darkness. Very reassuring. The one in the centre of the garage might look a bit strange. -Two on portico, -Two either side of garage, -Both on seperate switches so you have the option of having either on at a time. You really only need the portico ones on for the pizza man ![]() Paula Facade Lighting 11Apr 30, 2008 1:36 pm Hi there,
In recent times, the facade of the home has really become a statement. And to really call it home, it must give you that "Thank God im home feeling", everytime you roll up into the driveway. Too much light, not enough light ... we are all different. I think the most important thing, is to illuminate the outer corners of the home, so that in the dark of the night, the outer perimeter of the home is illuminated. Whether that may be dully illuminated, or like a christmas tree, i guess thats a personal preference, and thats what you need to twig. All light fittings have a maximum rated globes allowance, that is allowed to be placed in the fitting, before it starts to go into meltdown. Surprisingly enough, most people will put a 100w globe into a fitting that specifies max 100w. Try to put a 40w globe in that fitting, and instantly the mood is changed! In short, illuminate the perimeter, and then play with the globe wattages to discover whats too much or too little light! Hope this helps!
