New to the forum... help with bedroom lighting

I am new to this forum although have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for a very informative and educative forum.

Bit of intro about our venture... we are building for the first time. A Clare...n two storey home (Ballina). I have been following 'The house of cookies' blog (Thanks Mark) and have found it very interesting that we are almost running parallel to Mark's building progress... Our plans were approved by council in Feb, the final construction drawings are all finalised and now we are just at the 20 days wait period for something to happen at the site( rains haven't helped much :cry:

).

We had our electrical appointment today. Have gone with heaps of downlights... have decided that we get builder to just do the wiring and then get the DLs installed by an electrician later.

I need help from you in deciding what the options are available for bedroom lighting. We want to have fans in all bedrooms without the light attached to it. The rep at electric appnt advised 4 downlights each. Are there any other bright options?

Also is it advisable to get tv & pay tv wiring now or later for a lower cost?

Hi there Rav, and welcome to the home1 forum.

For your bedrooms, a soft light is always the best option. This type of light can be produced via a pendant. And a whiter and brighter light, can also be added via a table lamp.

On the other hand, the most obvious choice, is always downlights. They look clean, very price effective and don't protrude the ceiling. This option may be a good one, if you choose to install the fans you mentioned.

4 downlights per bedroom is advisable, as long as these rooms are at least 4.5m x 4.5m, otherwise 2 will suffice for the average bedroom of 3mx3m.

With internal wiring, it is always a good idea to do it at the building stage, as sometimes internal walls are extremely difficult to get down especially if its a double storey, and super especially if its on a slab. For single storey homes, its not so much of a problem when you choose to get it done.

Yes Bec. We are having bedside lamps for the main bedroom and one more bedroom at present.

phew! thanks we only just went for two, and bedside lamps
plus fan, hopefully be enough, have been concerned bout this
