http://www.neco.com.au/product.asp?pID=94&c=211555 still love to hear from anyone who actually has them Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 3Apr 21, 2008 8:04 pm I reckon you need 1.5 times more.
I replaced 6 out of 8 in the kitchen/family. I left the halogens over the bench & sink. The CFLs take a good 30 seconds to get to a good light level too. Overall I;'m happy, but it's a bit duller in there now. Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 4Apr 22, 2008 1:20 pm Yes there are CFL downlights and they cost about $20 each RRP.
There are also instant start ones which dont need to take 30 seconds to warm up. Avaliable in warm white, and white white. And they are slighting duller, than the halogen. its almost a 1:1 replacement but not quite there. and any and all help appreciated what size globes? think weve been quoted one which comes with a 11 is it enough? in a room 4 x 4 how many would I need? in the table I found the link to above, the number they reckoned was HUGE is it really worth it if you have to get so many? Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 6Apr 22, 2008 2:02 pm Our family room is around 4 x 3.6, and has 4 in it, while the kitchen is about 3 x 4 and also has 4 (they are attached as one large room though).
The 4 cfl's in the family room are good - more than enough for reading too. It's the kitchen that could probably do with more, which is why I left 2 halogens in it. The 11 would probably refer to 11W Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 9Apr 22, 2008 3:23 pm commodorenut Our family room is around 4 x 3.6, and has 4 in it, while the kitchen is about 3 x 4 and also has 4 (they are attached as one large room though). Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 12Jun 18, 2008 8:38 pm I overheard a comment by someone who has just installed 4 x 11w cfl downlights in their average size alfresco with cool white globes
they are very bright, too bright for casual entertaining, that they were brighter than they expected anyone agree/disagree? Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 14Jun 19, 2008 1:15 pm I think that halogens (without a dimmer) are probably also too bright for an outdoor area.
The only experience I have with them outdoors, is that I have one single 11W CFL downlight above my BBQ (it's fitted under the eave), and I find it a little dull. The ones inside the house are pretty much spot-on for what we need. cfl brightness? 15Nov 04, 2008 6:57 am hi all
I've seen the 13w CFL downlights that claim to be equivalent of 50w output. But will these be actually as bright as a 50w halogen downlight? Or do 50w halogens actually produce light equivalent to 100w incandescent? cheers S Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 16Nov 04, 2008 11:28 am I've found the colour difference of the CFL compared to Halogen makes them appear to be duller especially when you go higher up in the K rating.
Human eye actually picks up more detail with lower K rating (warmer colour) than higher K rating (bluer colours). Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 17Nov 05, 2008 4:10 pm Here's what my unit looks like
click here There's 10 lights all up. All are 4200k rated. Got my globes from ebay http://stores.ebay.com.au/XL-Lights He was happy to replace a faulty globe. Re: Does anyone actually have cfl downlights in their home? 18Nov 27, 2008 9:09 pm so happy to have found this post. just what i was after. thanks all for sharing such valuable info - the downlight decision does my head in.
I'm getting a new ceiling put in to cover a vermiculite one and need to decide on the gap to leave. if I go for cfl's i can have a higher ceiling i think - not by much, but it would be nicer.
