Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 08, 2013 11:31 am I want to buy a rail light with around 3-5 lights on it. I don't want to use downlights, so I thought the rail light would be a way of directing the light where I need it to go. I have seen these rail lights for sale with halogen GU10 bulbs. Would it be possible to buy one of these and just put in GU10 LED bulbs instead? Or will that not work? thanks Re: Rail lights - replace halogen with GU10 LEDs 2Mar 13, 2013 8:24 am Gu10 has the beauty of being 240v which makes dimming and compatibility much easier for LED, you still have the issue of the internal driver getting quite hot, but if you are looking for a cheaper solution its probably not a bad way to go. Also when you say rail light do you mean hand rail or ceiling rail Re: Rail lights - replace halogen with GU10 LEDs 3Mar 14, 2013 9:03 pm I meant a ceiling one. I might not be using the right term by rail light but I mean the individual little spot lights you can direct in different directions When you say it will get quite hot - would that not be the case in any circumstance, or would using it in the way I planned increase the heat somehow thanks Re: Rail lights - replace halogen with GU10 LEDs 4Mar 15, 2013 7:55 am All lights emit some sort of heat, but since you are having them on a rail setup you won't need to worry about your ceiling space heating up. They will be out of reach as well and the air should dissipate any other heat. Electrical just got back to me and said the most they can provide is a single power point on the Bedroom 1 side of that wall.
