Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Apr 18, 2008 11:39 pm Hi all,
we're trying to keep variations to a minimum & we're not sure how it works but , we're wondering ........................... 1.can we install additional lighting down the track ourselves eg 3 light pendants over kitchen bench, lights over bathroom vanities, etc.. ? and just have the builder install batten lights throughout the house for the time being ? OR 2. is it far simpler & more cost effective if the builder does it now ? I'm thinking, they're going to charge " like a bull to a red rag" Any comments? But do the upstairs stuff afterwards.
But, if it's a single storey then you'll have no problems, plenty of access for all sorts of things, lights, cabling etc. Then again if you put the standard points in for the pendant lights, you can have the sparky change them over in a jiffy. Downlights might get a bit tricky though. Re: Lighting Variations 3Apr 19, 2008 7:36 pm I found my builder had a very limited range and when I talked about supplying something they told me maybe its better if they just put a batten in and let me worry about it.
Seeing as they look to make profit on everything thats non standard I doubt there would be any money saving in having it done during building anyway (at least thats the excuse I gave myself). Downlights .... Pendants - during or after building? 5May 01, 2008 3:16 pm Hi there Southies,
I tend to agree with Phoenix, it really depends on whether you are building a double or single storey. Either way, i'd still recommend that you get the builder to put batten holders, everywhere that you think you will need either downlights or pendants. That way, all the wiring and switches are in there. Then, you can spend as much time as you want searching for the perfect light fitting that will really set the mood that you require! In addition, if you do as above, in future, it will be so much cheaper to upgrade to ANY light fitting you wish. Hope this helps! It seems very clear to me that your contract states that a security account does NOT need to be established so the answer to the builder is NO. If in doubt find a contract… 1 8505 The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8705 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
