Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jan 21, 2013 4:36 pm Just a quick question on LED downlights..... I prefer internal drivers - but some people say that they get hotter than external drivers.....not sure really, as LED's get better every day.. Does anyone out there know if there is much difference and whether having an internal driver actually means that the LED's dont last as long because of the heat..??? Re: LEDS - internal or external drivers? 3Jan 22, 2013 7:58 am Firstly have a look at a decent external driver and then have a look at a gu10, ask yourself how do they fit it all in there..... Depending on the chip manufacturer a variance of 10degrees (at the chip) can decrease chip life by 50%. eg. 50,000hrs @ 50deg could mean 6000hrs at @80deg (which is not uncommon for 7w+ gu10-MR16) Assuming the same supply chain you usually get exactly what you pay for. Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5412 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7944 3 10214 |
