Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Dec 17, 2012 8:17 pm We're currently renovating and would appreciate any ideas regarding lighting for our kitchen/living area. There is also a small window above the bench (roughly 1500mm high x 600mm wide) on the east wall on the far north end of the bench. The bench along the east wall has overheads which will have LED strip lighting underneath. The pantry has automatic lights when you open the door. We are looking at either 2 separate pendant lights or 1 long pendant over the island bench. Do we just do downlights for the rest (am looking at LED, definitely don't want halogen) and if so, how many would be needed? If not, what would work? Have thought about putting a pendant (same as over island) over the dining table but not sure how it would look. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Re: Lighting suggestions for kitchen/living 3Dec 18, 2012 7:30 pm The kitchen is off white 2 pack with black granite benchtops and a black granite splashback with stainless steel appliances. Flooring is timber, timber windows - window coverings have not been bought yet. Hope this helps. Re: Lighting suggestions for kitchen/living 4Dec 19, 2012 4:42 pm I'd go with two or even three smallish pendants spaced evenly over the benchtop. Something chrome would look good over a dark benchtop. Google the Splugen Brau light. For the dining table go with a larger single pendant of a different style. You can also go with a bigger drop from the ceiling for the light over the table, which can give a very dramatic effect. Re: Lighting suggestions for kitchen/living 5Jan 07, 2013 2:44 pm my plan is to have the thin LED strips just about everywhere I can fit them, if you pop into Jaycar they come in quite bright options, saves you having to fit huge ugly fittings & gives you shadow free lighting (coupled with a few normal LED down-lights in the roof) no such thing as too bright in the kitchen! As a rule of thumb, designers and artists like to use odd numbers as they are more visually pleasing, so I would go with 3 lights above the island unless you really like the look of 2. As for the other areas, I'm afraid I can't help with which types of lights. This is something I'm struggling with myself right now. I will say that if you're going to have many pendants in adjoining areas, keep them as similar as possible in theme and colors. This will help you to keep things cohesive. HD What?
