Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Dec 13, 2012 9:37 am My builder is suggesting cool white LED downlights in our apartment. ( Living dining and kitchen) What are your thoughts? is it too "surgical"? Should I get the warm white ( yellow) colour? STRIP LED I want to use strip LED lights under benchtop and overhead cabinets. Should I stick with cool white if that is what used in apartment? Re: Cool white LED: What do you think? 2Dec 13, 2012 6:33 pm I think cool vs warm is all personal preference. I have heard the general rule being warm in living areas and bedrooms. Cool for the kitchen. Personally, I've always preferred a cool light over a warm light. Again, it's just personal preference. Golden rule. Never mix the two where both will be adjoining each other. Choice depends almost entirely on what type of finishings you have. eg a warm timber floor looks washed out when cool white is used. Gloss blacks, whites or bright colours (granite, gloss kitchen cupboards etc) and white tiles all look great under cool white but the whites or light gloss colours can appear a little yellowy with the warm whites. We chose the cool whites due to the finishings we have but they would look very bad with a more traditional or country style decor. Re: Cool white LED: What do you think? 6Apr 29, 2013 9:03 pm I also think it's a personal preference, I like warm white personally, more like home - warm. However, previous experience told me that if you are getting multiple LEDs, test them in the shop to see the colours are consistent across all LEDs. Most of the branded LED are quite consistent, however, some still not too stable even though they all called warm white. Re: Cool white LED: What do you think? 7May 18, 2013 10:12 pm We get this question many times a day and to be frank it is 100% personal preference. I would certainly suggest viewing the prospective lights in action first, especially in similar surroundings.
