Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Oct 25, 2012 9:54 am We are building a new house and the kitchen has a dropped ceiling - originally I was going to put pendant lights over the island bench but with a dropped ceiling I am not sure if it will look funny Here is a pic of something like our ceiling will look like - what sort of lighting should I have over the island? Having downlights under the cupboards to light up the back bench. Do you think the pendant lights would still look ok? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also we are having downlights most places - Master bedroom, passages, theatre, games etc - I will be having downlights over the back bench in the kitchen but not sure what to have in the dining/living area which is quite large - about 10m x 5.5m. I dont really want to do downlights there as well - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated Re: Help with lighting ideas 2Oct 25, 2012 8:45 pm We have downlights in the kitchen (which has lower ceiling), 3 pendants over the dining table and downlights over the living area. We have a big difference in ceiling height 3.6m to 2.4m so we have also put uplights on the 1.2m section which is basically over the island. That is hard to describe, sorry. What are the 2 different ceiling heights that you have? If you still have high ceilings over the island then you could still do pendants over island successfully. Otherwise, I really like the pic you have posted. It seems to be all downlights except over the dining table and looks great. Re: Help with lighting ideas 3Oct 26, 2012 10:42 am the living area is 31c but I am guessing the kitchen will be about 26 course - maybe I need to do the downlights over the island bench although thats not really what I wanted Re: Help with lighting ideas 4Oct 30, 2012 11:46 am Hya - those lights look great although I am more of a subtle kind of person - but the idea is good thank you Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1. optional, you can but normally just use the earth from the main switch board 2. should be enough but the distance determines voltage drop - sparky should work it… 1 28814 I have a really long hallway which is 1100mm W x 11500mm L I would appreciate if anyone can give suggestions to light it up with Linear LED lights that goes from wall to… 0 8814 What?
