We've been given a lighting handout which details various fittings etc we can select. Unfortunately, the options/fittings are very limited so we were wondering if we put normal batten lights in on the ground floor of the double storey, could these be later changed over to pendents etc.... or would this have to be done during the build as access is required to the floor cavity? I believe downlight changeover is possible but not sure about pendents and other light fittings..... Basic pendants can be attached to the plaster, or they make a small hole in the ceiling to attach a hook to timber behind the plaster. The hole is then covered by the ceiling rose of the pendant. Heavyweight fixtures like chandeleirs need a noggin in the celing and this is a very difficult retrofit job in a lower story. We've got a 25kg light over the dining table, and this is attached to two ceiling noggins, and the suspension cable is additionally wrapped around a joist as a secondary measure.
