Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 16, 2012 11:13 pm Just wondering if it's possible to install downlights in raking ceiling area after handover, since $300+ per one LED downlight by builder is overkill compare to $120 by electrician? I spoke to someone who sells the downlights but he wasn't 100% sure if they will be able to get to raking ceiling afterwards. Am I stuck with paying over $300 to the builder or can I do all downlights after PCI? Thanks Re: LED Downlights and Raking Ceiling 2Jun 17, 2012 5:57 pm A metal roof will make things tricky, but it can be done. I used to have thsi plumber who would quip "theres nothing a $1000 cant fix!!!" @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. I used to have thsi plumber who would quip "theres nothing a $1000 cant fix!!!" Do you mean "metal roof" on the outside (Colorbond) or inside (metal frame)? So should I ask builder? Of course if i ask them they will tell me that the whole house will have to be done by them Plus how many downlights can be attached to one junction box? Edit: I've uploaded section of the house. Can someone please tell me if it's going to be possible to do LED downlights post handover in alfresco and raking part of the living area? That is going to be the main hurdle as you need approx 120mm cavity for most decent lights. You also want to make sure the LED will gimbal enough to point downwards, a lot of 'Gimbal' option products only have 5-10 degrees. getting power there will be the least of your issues assuming a cavity. Hi, thanks for your reply. I've attached another picture, hope it helps to identify the cavity size. Re: LED Downlights and Raking Ceiling 8Jul 14, 2012 2:47 pm If you use gimble fittings - there shouldn't be a problem. We are just about to fit our LED downlights on a raked ceiling - just be aware that if the ceiling is high - you will need brighter lights, or put them on dimmers in rows - as we are doing.. Re: LED Downlights and Raking Ceiling 9Jul 16, 2012 2:48 pm The gimbal is not the problem but the potential lack of ceiling space for the LED heatsink.
