Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 10, 2012 6:45 pm Hi All,
Hoping some opinions from here will stop me spinning in circles and changing my mind every two seconds. I have been trying to find the right style of pendant for our foyer and more than 9 months since I first started looking, I still cannot make up my mind! Here is our foyer This was my original inspiration Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Then I had grand ideas of what I wanted when we were building Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Then thought I had settled on something completely different but wanted to wait until we were in the house to see how it looked. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Well we are now in our house and DH has advised me that he doesn't like the 3 pendant idea (he thinks just one, because otherwise it would be too busy). And now we have been here for almost 3 months and I cannot find anything that I think I would be happy with. I would like something that is a bit of a statement, as due to the layout of the foyer there is not much else in regards to decorating (chairs, hall tables etc) that I can fit in. We also have 12 foot ceilings so it can hang down a bit. I would love some suggestions and ideas if anyone knows of anything they could suggest!! P.S Please check out our blog for a better idea on the style of the rest of the house - http://carolina1build.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 2Jun 12, 2012 9:55 am Hi, your entry looks great and it's a feature in itself. I think you should take minimalistic approach as your floorboards are a great feature. You also need to think about the cleaning given that the pendant will be high up. How about these: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 3Jun 12, 2012 4:31 pm Hi Aleana, I really love the first option you put up, I think it would really top off the beautiful entry that you have. I think you do need a large pendant in there as it seems like a large space. The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 4Jun 12, 2012 5:38 pm Beautiful entrance - well done!!! I think if you can afford the light in your inspiration pic and love it then go for it - it's gorgeous BUT if you can afford that light then you can probably afford to get anything you want costume made so that could be an option. That company have heaps of amazing lights on their website but they are all pretty much in the thousands of dollars price range. Here's a suggestion that might help - go and get a couple of lights that you like from a local lighting shop - hold them up in the space and see how the size and shape fits in the space then return the lights and get your money back (as long as they haven't been connected or damage and back in their boxes they should refund but check their refund policy first) if they don't look right. Good luck. Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 5Jun 12, 2012 8:32 pm Thanks taki - cleaning was the one thing I was trying to 'ignore' with the foyer! I know it will be fun to do but your right if I keep it minimalist then it will be easier. I do like the 3rd and 4th picture you have added but just not sure if they would be too small in the space. The measurements are 3.06m x 3.14m (not including the stairs) so it's quite a large space. Thanks Zarli - I would definitely love to have my inspiration light however I can't even remember where I found the picture of it, let alone the price. I have the strong feeling it was WAY above my limit though I love that it's wider than longer and definitely agree that I need something larger in there to "fill" the space. Thanks rocketship - I am based in Newcastle so the only real lighting shops I have available is Beacon, Rovert, and Cetnaj and have not been able to find anything that I am happy with in any of them. The closest was the third photo being a combination of Beacon's replica Nelson Bubble Lamp pendants, but I'm not sure if the only reason I liked them was because I could find them easily in a lighting shop. You mentioned custom made - do you know/can you recommend anywhere that will custom make a light? I must admit I never considered this an option because I have never heard of anywhere who does it. Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 8Jun 12, 2012 9:30 pm I think the inspiration light you put up is from yellow goat design (that pic is on their website). I believe they will costum make lights but it would be costly. Their website is amazing. I got an estimate on a fairly basic drum and it was about $3000 so I would imagine the light you are looking at would be alot more than that!!! I know a house that has a similar entry to you. They have 3 of these at different heights. They look great. http://www.beaconlighting.com.au/lighti ... black.html When I say get a light from a shop - it doesn't have to be a light you love. You just want to get an idea of size, shape and colour. Can you take a pic of you entry looking from opposite direction (standing at your front door)?? Gogo - where are you? you have search low and high for your lights!!! Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 9Jun 13, 2012 12:01 am Haha rocket ship, I'm here, but my foyer light is relatively boring, although it is being made,, 3 lights all put together at different heights, again my void is very different! Greenfish did recommend buyster for lights, it might be worth checking out that website, they had heaps. What about one of these http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff468/gogo65/73fd501d.jpg Here's mine anyway Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 10Jun 13, 2012 9:42 pm You're spot on rocketship- I remember it is from yellow goat design! So much 'drool-worthy' stuff on their website but that gave me the impression that it was way out of my budget as well. Oh how it would be nicer to win the lotto! Unfortunately I can't get a photo from the other direction at the moment because the balustrade is being used to hold my curtains-in-making. I will try to get & upload in the next couple of days. I do like the three light idea gogo - that was what I was thinking with the third pix I posted, but DH doesn't like it for some reason. I do really like the other photo you posted though! Where can I get it from? Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 12Jul 05, 2012 6:45 pm gogo65 It is a David trubridge, do a search on line, Hi gogo - here I am again searching for pendants. I too love the first one which, surprise surprise (if you read my other thread) is a David Trubridge. I wonder how exe $$$ it is. Will keep searching and try to have a look at some shops tomorrow. Around $500 for the smaller ones up to 2k for the larger ones thanks gogo. I think nina got hers from a website or something. Still digging around... Something that is simple, yet has character and size would go along well with the look of your place especially since you have a lot of room to work with. I always say stick with your original inspiration! Something similar to the first photo would be a great addition to the space. http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx69/aleanahouse/98837-1.jpg Re: Foyer Pendant Lighting 16Aug 16, 2012 10:41 am We ended up getting a David Trubridge Coral (600mm) for the stairwell. Natural external and orange internal. Will post a pic when it is up.
