Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 3May 29, 2012 3:30 pm I know! This isn't a new build though. Reno. 70s house. I'd have an island if I was building! I'm thinking that boring downlights positioned all through the area might be best. If I want a night pendant then I'd have to centre it in the room and it's kinda pointless then - not shining light on the important areas? we got something like this but with led bulbs for over the sink. It is great cos the light shines onto the sink and not on your back. Much better light than a downlight. http://www.lightingplus.co.nz/lighting/ ... t(cw-lamps).html Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 5May 29, 2012 3:50 pm That link doesn't work but I think I know what you mean. So you could put it in the centre of the room but angle the lights towards the bench? Or have it actually over the bench? Renovating our 1970s home Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 6May 29, 2012 3:52 pm The stupid words / links aren't doing the whole thing!! Sorry Yes, you could, but it would be better over the bench, as the person wouldn't put the bench in shadow then. In the centre just have some downlight? Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 7May 29, 2012 3:54 pm http://www.lightingplus.co.nz/lighting/ ... -spot.html Try this one.. Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 8May 29, 2012 3:54 pm Yes! Worked. We have 3 lights above sink, and the 3 pendants Over breakfast bar and that is us done. I use the extractor lights all the time too Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 10May 29, 2012 11:30 pm This is what we have. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o563/PHL2012/DSC01040.jpg 3 x LED strips, off one driver. The strips are actually hidden in the front of the cupboard and covered by the doors when they are closed. With the LED strips, unlike point lighting, there is no shadowing. Also FWIW, that's the only lights on for this photo. Re: What lights for galley kitchen? 12May 31, 2012 11:16 am We're bucking the trend and having strip LED above the Island as well. We saw it in another house and loved the streamlined look. Basically they cut a very shallow channel into the ceiling and then run the strip in there so that it's flush with the ceiling. Looks great and gives a wonderful even light along the length of the benchtop. Will report back on this one we've actually moved in and lived with it a while.
