Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 May 25, 2012 9:05 pm Hi, I love the idea of having a small chandelier hanging over bath, but was told be electrician that I can't due to safety reasons. He said that the light fitting must have a rating of IP70. I'm finding it hard to find a chandelier with this rating and one that I like. On the recent channel 9 series of The Block, Dani and Dan installed a 240 V pendant (from Beacon) over their main bath. Not sure what the IP rating is for that pendant, but I don't know why this would be more safe than a chandelier? I have seen heaps of photo in magazines with this idea. Can anyone tell me what I can and can't put over a bath? Many thanks, Re: Chandelier hanging over bath 2May 25, 2012 9:48 pm I think you will find that many of the pics you have seen are from overseas. They manufacture a wider range of bathroom fixtures insulated against heat and moisture found in bathrooms. In general, the US and England have far more styles on offer than what is currently available here for pretty much everything. Frustrating, I know. Hopefully our lighting manufacturers here will offer more styles in future! We have also been staggered by the cheap finish of some of the fittings contrasted with the huge expense of the better ones. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground....! Re: Chandelier hanging over bath 3May 27, 2012 5:10 pm How about something like this? I purchased lights from this company before and they're excellent. http://www.nostraforma.com/en/fatboy-ro ... 10060.html Re: Chandelier hanging over bath 4May 27, 2012 8:40 pm Many thanks for your replies. Hi Treeseachanger, Yes, I agree we are so limited with choice of designs in au! Most of the pics I have seen are in au mags and websites (like beacon lighting, reece etc...). I appreciate that there are regulations that electricians must follow, but there must be some way of hanging a lighting pendant over the bath. Maybe there is a minimum height distance above the bath or some other rule that my electrician is not aware of. Hi Gelatiii, I love that light...it would look great in an outdoor room! I think it's a little to big for my bathroom. Thanks for your suggestion. Kind regards, Re: Chandelier hanging over bath 5Sep 12, 2012 10:05 pm Hi You can have chandeliers hanging over the bath providing they are properly insulated and designed by professionals who take this type of lighting situation / location in to account.
