Any tips Re: Clipsal impress mechanism swap with led 3May 16, 2012 1:58 pm Hard? Not for an electrician, however depending on how your house is wired there might be no neutral at the switch! (LED on, switch off only) Of course a neutral can usually be added, but makes it harder! Legal? Only if you are licenced to do electrical work! 2 Re: Clipsal impress mechanism swap with led 4May 16, 2012 2:30 pm so if there is no neutral the led will only be on when the swtich is off? which is what i would want anyways. No point having the led on when the light is on. so its illegal to do this swap if your not a qualified electrician Re: Clipsal impress mechanism swap with led 5May 18, 2012 10:06 am NEWLYWEDS so if there is no neutral the led will only be on when the swtich is off? Correct which is what i would want anyways. No point having the led on when the light is on. Works out well (some people want the LED on always, some on with the lights) so its illegal to do this swap if your not a qualified electrician If your not licensed to do electrical work then yes it is illegal to do anything where you need a tool basically! Although you can buy and supply the equipment to an electrician to install. Clipsal impress mechanism swap with led 6May 18, 2012 11:50 am You can have the LED on with the switch on or off, but without a neutral at the switch it has to power the LED with the power that 'leaks' through the light. With a traditional incandescent bulb this isn't a problem, but with CFL or LED lamps it can cause the light to flicker when off. And as others have said, you need a licensed electrician to do the work, but it should only take them about 10 minutes per switch. Paul Re: Clipsal impress mechanism swap with led 7Jul 28, 2012 1:13 pm I'm having these put into my new house in the general living areas, i plan to have them glowing blue when lights are off, but in bedrooms it will be the opposite. Ask the sparky, if you can supply your own if its cheaper..they are decently prices off ebay |
