Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Aug 31, 2011 10:55 am Hi guys, I'm wanting to have fans in each of my bedrooms/lounge rooms to reduce reliance on air conditioning, reduce electricity consumption and improve airflow during our hot summers. I've also been reading about how pendant lighting requires less lights to adequately light up a room than downlights thereby using less energy. I've been looking into fans for my rooms and have come across combined fan/lights that I like... only one problem... they're in the US. eg. http://www.lampsplus.com/products/54-in ... k4779.html http://www.lampsplus.com/products/60-in ... 13985.html I've read that the US use 110V-120V and we use 240V so these are not compatible. Can an electrician convert these across to Aust power? If it uses an external convertor, does this end up using more energy to run thereby defeating the purpose? Or could they be rewired to be 240V? Thanks for any advice! I would just by in Australia, but these types of items don't seem to exist! Can you use US light fittings in Aust? 3Aug 31, 2011 3:31 pm Hi Unfortunately it is a bit more complicated than the situations in those other threads, because you are looking at a fan which has a motor. The different voltage and frequency of AC current in Australia would make it extremely difficult to use these here. All are light adaptable and I think are closer to what you are after than anything else I have seen. Good luck in your search Re: Can you use US light fittings in Aust? 5Mar 18, 2012 5:18 pm Hi, we were thinking of doing the same and were told that though they can be converted, the warranty is automatically voided. also very expensive to rewire, and some styles can't be rewired. Go for an aussie site, some have free shipping as well.
