We are going to put our downlights in soon, and looks like we will be going the CFL way. I know there are a number of threads on this, and I have read through most of them, but some date back a number of years, and I hope technology has improved since then.
Halogens cost too much to run, generate too much heat (last thing I want on a 42 degree day in Perth, is 15 mini heaters on my roof)
LED's cost too much as an initial investment, and even if I decided to go with them, it seems there are too many different opinions on which one is good, which one is not etc. They are too expensive for me to purchase, decide I don't like this particular light, and switch to the next one.
That leaves CFL. From what I understand, they have less light output than Halogen, but not by a lot. They are significantly cheaper to run and generate far less heat. So now my question comes to... Which ones should I get? It seems most of them have a big problem, in that they take a good 1-2 minutes to get to full brightness. This isn't really ideal. Which CFL's are out there that have managed to eliminate the problem?
What type of 'colour' should I be looking at? (I know it is a very subjective thing), but i'm after a nice natural light.
Any other things I need to consider?
