Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 03, 2011 3:58 pm HI As the title says we have bought a house and want to change the 12 volt downlights to LED (brightgreen d900) - 10 year old house, but the electrician I called didnt want to do it - said too difficult to quote etc - has anyone else done this, any issues? we want to use the existing holes etc and just swap them over - are we being silly to think this can be done? any advice welcome before we call anymore electricians - starting to feel a bit silly many thanks Re: changing 12v halogen to LED downlights - any issues - 2Mar 04, 2011 7:57 am Should be pretty straight forward, my guess is the quotes will all be slightly inflated as there can be more unknowns in an existing house and because you are sourcing the product yourself so no margin to pickup on the product. But assuming wiring in the roof isn't too messy and plaster is in good nick should be an easy job. If you wanted to do half the job yourself, take the lights out of the ceiling and pull the transformers through the hole then the only job for the electrician is to disconnect and reconnect 2 wires per light (some safety does need to be exercised).
