Do you also have downlights between your island and overhead cupboards? If so, how many? Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 2Jan 23, 2011 4:32 pm None over island bench. Three hanging pendants over 4m island bench. No overhead cupboards but between the appliance wall and island bench I have 3 downlights Some things are worth waiting for. Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 3Jan 23, 2011 6:09 pm My bench is 4metres and I have 3 pendant lights over that with 3 downlights inbetween them and the overheads ETA: Just realised I gave pretty much same response as Kyton Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 4Jan 25, 2011 9:00 pm Might have to consider pendant lights over the island Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 5Jan 25, 2011 9:03 pm None, our island has nothing in it (no sink etc). We just have a long pendant. Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 6Jan 25, 2011 9:06 pm We will have three pendant lights over the island bench. We will also have lights at the top and bottom of the glass door overhead cupboards. I wondered whether it might need more downlights between the island bench and the cupboards, however I have been advised that it will probably be more than enough. I guess I'll see for sure when our lights are actually installed! Cheers! Miriam Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 7Jan 25, 2011 9:37 pm I feel like I have answered this before must have disappeared! I have 3 pendants over the island, 2 downlights in between island & overheads and 1 over the sink. Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 8Mar 12, 2011 10:32 am We will have all downlights to the Kitchen. There is a drop ceiling that sections the entire kitchen and a recess above the 2 meter island bench. The sink benchtop in front of it is 2.5 meters and we will have 3 down lights above. We also have bench lighting under the overhead cupboards to either side of the stove, and one in a in-wall area where we plan to make the tea and coffee. Very handy. It would have been nice to have pendant lights above the sink but we have chose to make the Dining room Chandelier next to the Kitchen a focal point so we kept the rest as downlights. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 10May 25, 2011 10:33 pm LOL, I was just going to start up a thread asking weather I should have "odd or even" number of pendant lights above our 4m island bench but it looks like everyone has gone for 3 x pendants - Cheers! I'm showing this to Rob i think. He was asking why i wanted three batten lights above the island (so that we can instal the pendants afterwards) and i said to him (and i remember hearing this on one of those design shows) in design odd numbers always work. For some reason it just balances things...IMHO anyway Building Waldorf 44 with PD Feel free to follow our build progress - http://melnrobsknockdownrebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 13May 26, 2011 3:12 pm We just have 3 pendants over our island bench (3m long) and the 3 halogens in the rangehood. That's all the lighting we have for the entire kitchen and it is plenty. I had expected it to be dim but it is fine. Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 14May 26, 2011 5:57 pm If you don't have lights above the sink and the lights are behind you when you stand in front of the sink, wouldn't it be hard to see when you're manually washing the dishes, because you'd be blocking the lights ? Re: How many downlights above your kitchen island/sink? 17May 26, 2011 6:21 pm We're having 3 x pendants (not 4 ) over our island bench with dimmers 1 x fluro light to the ceiling in centre of the kitchen area Strip of lighting underneath our overhead cupboards to light up the glass splashback as a bit of a feature. Plenty of lighting in the kitchen is a must & also agree that you need a light over the sink. I like dimmers as when I'm not using the kitchen I still like a bit of light in there.
