Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jan 19, 2011 10:42 am I have a 2 storey foyer at my front door. It looks great, spacious, trouble is, there is an oyster light on the ceiling here. Changing light globes is impossible! I was thinking of changing light fitting to a pendant light that hangs1/3 of the way down (where my ladder would reach). But the oyster light would leave holes in the ceiling (as have all the other oyster lights I have replaced). Patching and sanding the ceiling then painting it makes it a big job. I couldn't possible do it. Was thinking of getting some kind of ceiling rose to cover the holes and negate the need for patching (though still will have to paint). Not the ornamental type, just something plain, circular, to cover up the holes with the new light fitting hanging from it. I am sure I have heard of ceiling roses that are made of materials other than plaster?! so they are light and easy to fix. Anyone out there had a similar experience with a high ceiling light fitting and changing it? Re: High Ceiling in Foyer 2Apr 26, 2011 11:01 pm no im sorry depending if your talking about a federation/ victorian style you can only get them in plaster in my experience. unless you are willing to pay for someone to make one . :S
Re: High Ceiling in Foyer 3Jun 10, 2011 5:17 pm We have a 2 storey entry as well but ours is an upside down house (living areas upstairs). I bought a 4ft capiz shell pendant and the part connecting to the ceiling has this cover plate so it went over the hole left by the previous fixture. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us It's still pretty high up to change the bulbs so we have energy savers in a warm light so hopefully it wont need to be changed for a while. And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5943 |
