Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Nov 10, 2010 4:20 pm I'm trying to work out what lighting to use through the house and I'm stuck with the bedrooms. We'll have fans, plus an air-con duct and the only thing I can think is to have a couple of downlights for lighting. Is there any other options or is the ceiling just too busy with the fan and air-con duct to have anything else? ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 3Nov 10, 2010 4:33 pm TheOK Just a word of caution, if you have downlights on when the fan is in use it may give a shadow strobe effect. I was worried about that too. The lighting salesperson said we'd have to have the downlights nearer to the corners of the room to avoid that - which I then worried would leave dark spots. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 5Nov 10, 2010 4:59 pm TheOK You could get a fan with a light built in and/or use lamps too. this is what we did. boring, but the most practical option. can still put fancy fittings in the living areas and bathrooms "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Ok ... google time to see what is new in the range of fans with lights. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 9Nov 10, 2010 8:03 pm we've got fan lights. Much nicer than they used to be. In our old house we had the clipper ones. the new ones are much better. Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 11Nov 10, 2010 9:32 pm Cooped07 http://www.mercator.com.au/ Great site It is great ... didn't realise there was so many different fans. CC101 i am also having ceiling fans and evaporative air con. so i am going for bedroom light fittings on walls Didn't even think of that ... thank you. kexkez we've got fan lights. Much nicer than they used to be. In our old house we had the clipper ones. the new ones are much better. Looking at the website above, they look 100 times better than what we had in our old house. Casa2 Four downlights at normal spacing should be outside the fan's diameter. That's originally what I was thinking about, but now that our costings have come in a bit higher than quoted by the sales rep, I need to cut back a little and extra downlights are the first to go. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 12Nov 10, 2010 10:43 pm i am not gettting ceiling fans from builder though. i will have conduits for lights and light switch in the middle of roof so that i can change that to ceiling fan after handover. i am getting extra 2 light switches on walls. also my kids like tube lights in their bedrooms as they study in the bedrooms, so light switches on wall will have tube lights Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 13Nov 11, 2010 7:52 am CC101 i am not gettting ceiling fans from builder though. i will have conduits for lights and light switch in the middle of roof so that i can change that to ceiling fan after handover. i am getting extra 2 light switches on walls. also my kids like tube lights in their bedrooms as they study in the bedrooms, so light switches on wall will have tube lights We're tossing up whether to get the builder to install the fans ... if we want fan lights then no way as their range is ugly . Has anyone installed the fan/lights with the remote, rather than the wall control? I need to speak to the sparky again and see if he still charges the same, but I would hope it would be a simple change over from the baton. Then again, nothing is ever simple with the trades I was thinking something like this one, energy saving fluro, but dimmable and fan. http://www.martecceilingfans.com.au/met ... oduct_page ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Bedroom lighting when you have fans ... 14Nov 11, 2010 8:09 am mine have a wall control and remote. we paid an extra $100 or so for the remote, but I dont even know where it is we just get up and walk over to the wall... we got ours for around $100 each from Australian Lighting and the builder installed them for us for $100 each fan.
