Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Oct 17, 2010 3:34 pm I am over oyster lights, and any of those totally on the ceiling lights...their light seems harsh...I think because it tends to illuminate the ceiling VERY brightly because the light is so close to it... As far as I can tell (but I'm not sure, and this is why I've started this thread), lights like pendants, chandeliers and downlights seem to light rooms in a softer, more gentle light, sort of more like lamps do...am I right? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: What lights are better for softer / lamp-like lighting? 2Oct 17, 2010 11:24 pm i had oyster like lights in the old house we used lower wattage bulbs for softer feel oh and dimmers in the new house hope this helps ps : you must know somethings to be a senior member Follow Feggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34992 Follow lilfeggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37149 Asbestosis Sux! I find their light is more like daylight in the rooms. Especially if you are reading. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Lol. We also use the lowest wattage possible in our ceiling lights, but we find when the light is brighter, it’s the WRONG brightness, and when the light is dimmer, it’s too hard to read or see! But it’s still the wrong TYPE of light. I grew up with nothing but chandeliers, you see. Ideally, I want downlights in terms of their TYPE of light, but second choice is chandeliers, which I would get all over if our ceilings weren’t so low! How the hell did I become a senior member!?
