Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Oct 09, 2010 10:19 pm I am sick of oyster lights everywhere in our place!! We are restricted (in the ensuite anyway, which is the subject of this thread) by 1. Height of the ceiling (low) - I can place the palm of my hand flat against the ceiling when my arm is bent at the elbow and I reach up so my elbow is at the same height as my eyes) 2. Size of the room - VERY small 3. We're a ground floor apartment so can't access the ceiling Anyway, but my main thing is, I do not want SHADOWS!! I like track / directional lighting for instance, but I cannot do my makeup in these lit rooms!! You're either in the dark or you're blinded by the lights!! I LOVE the idea of a short, simple kind of pendant type of chandelier, but I'm not sure it'd fit and not hit me in the head! lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Attractive small bathroom lighting WITHOUT shadows?? 2Oct 10, 2010 6:58 am can you put some lights beside your mirror? pretty sure these are the only ones which would provide NO shadows. my parents have a low pendant light, not sure exactly how low it hangs but surprisingly they don't hit their heads on it. and dad is 6'4" "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Re: Attractive small bathroom lighting WITHOUT shadows?? 3Oct 10, 2010 7:07 am Our old house in Alice Springs had a single four foot flouro above the mirror, no problem with shadows when the missus is applying her warpaint. The secret is to find a fitting that looks right with a decent diffuser as you don't want it looking like a mirror in a toilet block in a caravan park. Re: Attractive small bathroom lighting WITHOUT shadows?? 4Oct 10, 2010 4:30 pm Oh wow, I've always avoided those long lights directly above / on top of mirrors...I always have found them way too harsh for makeup lighting. But obviously wherever I've used them was in cheap motels, etc! In my ensuite, I don't have room for lights on either side of the mirror. I'd love these. Then I'd have a nice overhead light mainly for aesthetics and use the wall lights (sconces) for practical AND aesthetic purposes. But no, can't do it. The mirror is pretty much along the whole wall, with a very narrow bit on the left which COULD fit a tiny narrow light on it, but the other side is even narrower and nothing could fit there at all. Con sarn it! lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this.
