Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Oct 04, 2010 5:56 pm Hi Folks, Can anyone shed any light on the best value brand of power point/light switch/electrical accessory? Clipsal is the first that springs to mind, but their prices are mostly a lot higher then other brands like HPM, Pulset and so on. From one on line electrical sales place prices for a standard double 10A power point: Clipsal 2000 $19, HPM $10, Pulset 6.40. That sort of difference seems typical across the range. Are Clipsal that much better that they're worth the extra expense, or are they just gouging the general public? Are the other brands that bad that they're not worth buying? - even Pulset have a 10yr replacement warranty. Thanks, Gavin Re: Power point brand vs quality 2Oct 05, 2010 7:37 pm Clipsal and HPM are he only brands worth using. Good build quality and easy to work with. RRP is around $17. But sparky's will be buying them for around $8 for either brand so shop around. www.sparkydirect.com.au go for a look. Re: Power point brand vs quality 3Oct 06, 2010 7:58 pm As an electrician I'll always go for Clipsal or HPM for a couple of reasons: The Clipsal standard series has been available since the mid 1970s and the 2000 series since the 1980s, I have a pretty good chance of being able to match the existing outlets if this is needed. Ditto for HPM. The Clipsal 30M and HPM 770M switch mechs are readily available, to get replacements for HEM, SPM, TDM or others is an effort if you need to change one out. If you ever want something thats not the normal accessory ie round earth, single outlet with two extra switches or a 20 amp outlet, outside of Clipsal, HPM or PDL you'd be struggling. Add onto the range of flash clip on faceplates you can get and the fact that they shouldn't drop to bits in a hurry ( I work in a building which has Clipsal 4 and 24 series outlets made in 1972 in regular service) I reckon you can't go too far wrong. Thank you. That is really helpful.
