Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Sep 04, 2010 7:35 pm Howdy all We are considering stair lighting for ...our stairs Just curious as to what others have done, photos..reccomendations. Also for the stair experts...we have upgraded our stairs (builder to provide KDHW stained staircase $3230)...could someone clarify what kind of wood this is? We have also asked for double handrail with wrought iron balstures....we should get a quote for this next week. Thanks for reading Mandi Re: stair lighting 2Sep 04, 2010 8:31 pm Hi, We used 240V LED ones - provide reasonable light (mainly wanted to have light after bed time, there is another light overhead), no need for transformer and fit in a normal wall cavity. http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss214/MrsRose_photos/IMG_1210.jpg http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss214/MrsRose_photos/IMG_1213.jpg Cheers Never argue with an idiot they drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience - Dilbert View Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19733 Contract signed 14Sept Slab 30Sept Bricks laid 1Dec Lock up 26Feb Keys 10Jun Re: stair lighting 4Sep 04, 2010 10:14 pm Thanks for posting the photos Judie and Mrs Rose ...both your stairs look great! (didn't think a humble down light choice even would be so complicated).... thanks again! Sandra...wow...thats an amazing range of hues in your treads, looks beautiful! where did you get that idea from? Thanks again for the photos! Re: stair lighting 11Jan 24, 2011 9:56 am Hi slknv I just had a look at your blog to check out your stairs. They are gorgeous. Do you mind me asking what is next to the staircase? Is it by any chance a sitting or dining room? Do the stair lights bother you when facing them? Re: stair lighting 12Jan 30, 2011 1:34 pm Our electrician selected these LED lights. There is one driver for all three. I think he said they are 1.5W each. We have only been in the house three nights, and with young children that like visiting us during the night, we have been leaving them on all night (our bedrooms are on different floors). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The three lights are all that are needed. They are on in the photo during the day and despite their low wattage, they leave a bright spot on the stairs. At night it is a nice glow that is just bright enough. We do not have an overhead light for the stairwell. Re: stair lighting 13Jan 30, 2011 4:55 pm sandra77 Here are the lights for our stairs. We used 2 LED ones and they are on 24/7. Ith ink they were about 70 bucks each from Sandra I really like your stairs - we are looking at doing something similar anyway.... On my travels I've bookmarked these http://www.de-kor.com/indoor-recessedlights.html Re: stair lighting 14Apr 21, 2011 3:35 pm cheltenham3192 I think he said they are 1.5W each. That's why I love LEDs! Re: stair lighting 15Apr 22, 2011 12:46 pm Sorry, I didnt see any more postings on this thread. bijli, The different treads on the stairs are like that becasue they are just cheap hardwood stair treads! Turns out they came up really nicely. Sandra Re: stair lighting 16Apr 26, 2011 9:22 pm I like the look of these lights only in a situation where you have wooden stairs. The reflection adds depth to the lighting and make a nice ambience in my opinion.
