Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Sep 01, 2010 5:08 pm Hello all, I would really appreciate some help with my kitchen lighting. At the moment all we have is one light point in the middle of the kitchen. I am not a fan ofdownlights, but don't know what else I can use to light such an area as I want to avoid shadows over my benches. We are yet to sign off on the plan so its no trouble to add additional light points. I was thinking about something like this in the middle http://www.onlinelighting.com.au/produc ... ts_id=2929 and then perhaps two pendants over the breakfast bar but am concerned that I would end up with shadows as my back would be towards the lights when I did the dishes. The rangehood has a light so shadows shouldn't be a problems over that side. (WDYT?????) Any help would be hugely appreciated as I am going mad looking at online lighting Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Happy, Healthy Free Range Wessex Saddleback Pigs My doom and gloom paperwork nightmare viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32170 Construction viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43653 Re: Help with kitchen lighting 2Sep 01, 2010 6:31 pm Velouria Hello all, I would really appreciate some help with my kitchen lighting. IMO 12v downlights are the ones to beat, especially over the bench/sink areas. We have just finished our Kitchen lighting and went with 2x Halogens either side of the sink, and 3x over the main bench (and Rangehood takes care of the other side with 2) In the middle we went with 3 more downlights inline with those over the main bench. Having lighting directly above in this fashion creates no shadow issues. (if ur really interested I can post pics) Re: Help with kitchen lighting 3Sep 02, 2010 9:47 am Thanks Mika, If you could post a picture I would really appreciate it as I am still not sure which way to go. All the kitchens I have been in have had fluros - but they are a little dagging IMO. Anyone got some funky fluros to show? Maybe something like this: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/60170674 or: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/5016178. Maybe not funky but we thought these looked better than the usual glass ones............elegant, restrained & easy to clean Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Help with kitchen lighting 6Sep 02, 2010 8:10 pm We have this in our kitchen, love it. The light it throws off is fabulous Re: Help with kitchen lighting 7Sep 02, 2010 9:39 pm i was going to suggest you look at Aaron and Erin's spotlights for something different. We went with 2 standard lights down the centre of the room and 3 spotlights over our bench area. Dh tends to wash up during the day and has a window to look out so isn't too concerned about shadows but I imagine another light in this area might be nice for night time washing up although it wasn't that much of a drama not to have a light over the sink at our last house which had the same light configuration ( minus the additional downlights) I'd be considering 2 lights or a double light in that pantry area though. That little corner section is going to be dark. Re: Help with kitchen lighting 8Sep 03, 2010 10:54 am Sorry gang,I posted the wrong plan- this is the electrical and it shows we have a light in the pantry - thanks Kerry for mentioning that... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ After much deliberation and help from you all, I am leaning heavily towards having a central fluro (loving Southies one) and then some spotlights like Erin's over the breakfast bar. The rangehood has a light in it, so that is fine for that side of the kitchen, plus we have a 3m window over the sink so that should give quite a bit of light (I am not a night dishwasher) but the fluro should take care of lighting at night. I am getting the builder to put some conduit in the wall so I can get an electrician to add the tasklight later (if I need it) Thanks for your help..you guys rock- as usual Happy, Healthy Free Range Wessex Saddleback Pigs My doom and gloom paperwork nightmare viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32170 Construction viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43653 Re: Help with kitchen lighting 9Sep 03, 2010 7:40 pm hmm thinking of conduit--- another electrical tip if you are planning on ceiling fans later on and want the switch for the fans on internal walls and they are brick walls make sure there is conduit in the walls or they can't do it without ripping holes all the way down the plaster and no sparkies want to do that. If you expect to have it in the same location as an already located light switch then make sure that switch wiring is in conduit as some of the WACB sparkies don't do conduit as standard. Unless you want attractive (not) conduit sitting on top of the plaster. Not a good look. Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1. optional, you can but normally just use the earth from the main switch board 2. should be enough but the distance determines voltage drop - sparky should work it… 1 28822 I have a really long hallway which is 1100mm W x 11500mm L I would appreciate if anyone can give suggestions to light it up with Linear LED lights that goes from wall to… 0 8826 What?
