In my bedrooms I have cool white for the ceiling light, as it is brighter and helps with getting dressed etc, and warm white in the lamps. Generally, warm white is recommended for living areas, and cool white is recommended for utility areas. If it makes a difference to you, there is an argument that warm white is healthier for you. Cool white tricks the body's circadian clock into thinking it is daytime, meaning that your sleep rhythm will go out of whack, as your body thinks cool white light is daylight and won't allow you to feel sleepy at the correct time. So people with houses full of cool white globes will have lower quality sleep than those with warm light. For this reason I have even altered my laptop with an application that changes the screen to warm white as the night goes on, so that I don't have the unnatural laptop light blaring in my face and keeping keeping me awake - it's made a huge difference, so I can only assume the theory for house lights is the same Staircases and sausages.
